Up to 5 color offset printing
A plate is needed for each color used in the artwork.
Each plate costs $150.00 and can be used for the life
of the product line (unless non-color changes are made
to the artwork).
One Color Silk Screening
A screen must be created for each color you are going
to print. At Parkway your screen charge would be $50.00.
Flame Treating
All Items Printed by PPI are flame treated where necessary.
Items not printed by PPI may be flame treated at $30.00/m
per pass for sizes up to 58mm, $35.00/m per pass for
63mm to 89mm, $45.00/m per pass for 100mm to 120mm.
Flame Treating is a TEMPORARY process, Jars should be
labeled or Printed on as soon as possible.
Thick Wall Jar Frosting
Parkway offers Thick Wall Jar Frosting on items for
40.00/m from 33mm to 58mm, 60.00/m from 63 through 89mm,
and 65.00/m for 100mm through 120mm.
Lead Times for all
decorated orders is 4-6 weeks from approval of camera
ready artwork by all parties. Artwork approval is extremely
important for packaging quality and can also be time consuming.
Machine Set Up Charges
will apply on decorated jar orders under 10,000 pieces
(where the diameter is less than 53mm), and decorated
jar orders under 5,000 pieces (where the diameter is
less than or equal to 53mm). The standard Machine Setup

What is Offset
Printing?
Offset Printing is a high-speed, economical printing method
for jars. In this method Ink is transferred first from
each color plate in sequence to a rubber blanket, and
then, when all colors are "stacked" on this blanket, the
complete image is transferred from the blanket to the
surface of the jar. The plate is mounted on the ink fountain
and the rubber blanket is mounted on the offset cylinder.
The surface, after being flame treated in preparation,
picks up the image as it passes between the rubber and
an impression cylinder. Offset Printing is economical
for the long run, but does include some up front charges
to create the needed metal artwork.
Offset Printing is a very nice process leaving the
ink flush with the wall of the jar. However, since all
offset inks are transparent, the colors only appear
opaque on white or light colored substrates. If you
need opaque ink on clear or dark colors, then you would
want to use silk screening.
What is Silk Screening?
In Silk Screening an image is transferred to the printed
surface by ink, which is pressed through a stenciled
screen. This stencil is created by coating the "screen"
with a light sensitive emulsion and then "contact printing"
a film positive on the screen. The "development" of
the screen causes the emulsion to be washed away in
the areas that were exposed to light, leaving a porous
area for the ink to flow though.
If Silk screening in more than one color is desired,
Parkway has an extensive network of contacts who we
can recommend to help you professionally prepare your
jar packaging for the market.
What is Flame Treating
& When Would I Need It?
Flame treating is the process of passing the jar surface
to be printed in front of a very intense flame, under
precisely controlled conditions in order to prepare
the surface for printing. If you plan on printing on
the jar we would recommend having the jars flame treated
in house.
What is Frosting?
Frosting is a process similar to flame treating, only
it is done to give the jar a decorative matte finish.
What is the difference
between "Frosted" and "Frostique"?
Frostique is an in mold process to give a matte surface
to the jars. It cannot not be done to any jar in stock,
the jars must be "made" as "Frostique" jars. Frostique
jars will normally have to be flame treated if they
are to be printed. Frostique jars are carried in stock
in 2oz 53mm Thick Wall Natural, and 4oz 70mm Thick Wall
Natural.
If decoration is something you are interested in pursuing
with Parkway Plastics please feel free to give us a
call with any questions you may have to help you through
this process.
